Climate Action Business Incubator (CABI)

Get Involved

The Climate Action Business Incubator (CABI) empowers climate-focused entrepreneurs to pursue commercially viable, climate-focused businesses and innovative solutions to the immediate effects of climate change.

Incubated companies focus on climate innovations that emphasize adaptation and resilience to the effects of climate change. We then support early-stage, climate-focused entrepreneurs by providing resources, mentorship, funding, and a holistic approach to entrepreneurship. This helps build sustainable, scalable businesses.

Our Partners

Powerd by a $1 million grant from the UC Office of Research for its Climate Action Innovation & Entrepreneurship – as part of Resilience and Adaptation Development in California (RADiCal) initiative –  the University of California, Irvine (UCI), selected RevHub and Sustain SoCal to establish  Orange County’s first Climate Action Business Incubator (CABI).

CABI will enable startups to innovate in the clean, green, and blue technology space. The program seeks to encourage growth in regional climate-focused technology enterprises and innovation across UC campuses while connecting community entrepreneurs to leverage the university’s state-of-the-art facilities and top research experts.

Sustain SoCal, formerly Cleantech OC and Sustain OC, addresses Southern California’s growing sustainability, environmental, and infrastructure needs. Through conferences and networking events, it fosters connections to drive economic progress and sustainable solutions in energy, water, and transportation. Diverse participants, including businesses, governments, nonprofits, and investors, collaborate in aligned working groups to develop actionable plans for the region’s future challenges and opportunities.

RevHub and SustainSoCal will work in partnership to develop tools, large existing data, and expand networks to bolster climate-focused businesses.

FAQ

Four main reasons:

  1. CABI is the first program in Orange County supporting the unique venture journey for mission-first enterprises.
  2. Our program is specifically built to support enterprises with innovative solutions to address climate resilience and adaptation.
  3. We take a holistic approach to supporting our ventures by acknowledging entrepreneurs as individuals and helping them reach their full potential.
  4. Our incubator program provides a tailored pathway to be impact and investment ready, and access capital from our social impact fund, RevFund.

The program is free to entrepreneurs. Our goal is to get you impact- and investment-ready. We like to think of it as a win-win situation. You’re looking for support and investment, and we’re looking for social enterprises to invest in who are going to address our world’s biggest environmental challenges.

The structured program is six months. After program completion, we expect most ventures to be impact- and investment-ready, and prepared to pitch to RevFund. Ventures who aren’t may continue getting support on an as-needed basis with the goal of getting them prepared to pitch to RevFund.

At the moment, the program modules are done virtually. However, we still believe in the power of in-person engagement. Whenever possible, we’ll schedule in-person meetings with the ventures to build relationships. We will also have in-person events, such as mixers and panels, throughout the year that ventures are highly encouraged to attend.

Absolutely! We have info sessions scheduled throughout the year that you can attend to learn more. If you are too excited and can’t wait for the upcoming info session, then please reach out.

No. We encourage at least one member, and a max of two, to attend all programming modules.

We have three cohorts per year, and we accept five to seven ventures per cohort.

Yes. We understand there are many resources out there for entrepreneurs, and we don’t want to hold you back from receiving all the support you need to reach your milestones. We do ask that you’re able to fully participate in our programming to ensure we get you impact- and investment-ready.
